Job's animals

Post by Tom Tighe »

I know there are a lot of really power messages in Job, but silly me, I'm curiously struck by the casual mention of two animals.

40:15 "“Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. 16 What strength it has in its loins, what power in the muscles of its belly! 17 Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit. 18 Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like rods of iron. 19
It ranks first among the works of God." One of God's first creations and it kind of sounds like a dinosaur, yet it was known to Job

41:12“I will not fail to speak of Leviathan’s limbs, its strength and its graceful form. 13 Who can strip off its outer coat? Who can penetrate its double coat of armor?" The Leviathan is a sea creature and is described as a monster in Psalms and Isaiah, but spoken of here as if we should know about it. God (in Job) describes it like a fire breathing dragon. Curious that similar creatures are found in many ancient cultures.
