Greetings Bible Adventurists!
I thought I would just remind everyone of the reasons for the repetitive readings we are enjoying now. Samuel death was recorded in 1 Samuel 25 so his work was probably completed by Nathan, Gad or someone else inspired by God and/or appointed by David. The Books of Kings are also anonymous, but it is likely that Jeremiah wrote them. They are compilations of official court and temple records written in the time of the kings before (spoiler alert) the Babylonian exile. After returning from the exile, Ezra wrote a history based on the same set of (recovered or rediscovered) records. Ezra’s book is Chronicles. Since both sets of books were written from the same source material, they are nearly identical in many places.
I hope everyone had a blessed Easter. Thanks for reading along with me.
Tom
