Ananias and Sapphira

The death of these two sent shock waves through the new church. They lied to God and got smote! This is Old Testament style justice that we see for directly challenging God and His laws. Peter was given authority to forgive or retain sin and when he announces Ananias' guilt the punishment is swift.
