Number of animals

As many times as I have read this verse in Genesis (7:2), I guess I have overlooked that Noah took seven of each clean animal, and that he had "extra" so that he could sacrifice clean animals to the Lord (8:20). It just surprised me that I never realized this before, as I always just assumed it was "2 of each kind"
